Spiritual Discovery: 4 Aspects of Being: Body, Breath, Mind, Spirit

There are 4 aspects of our being that affect how we experience and generate vibration currents within ourselves.

Body - physical alignment affects what shapes vibrations can take within us, and what we can hold space for.

Physical makeup and alignment determines the shapes of currents we can hold space for, and thereby generate.

Depending on how we are aligned, nāda has specific shapes it can take within us and even reach.

We can easily experience this through sound. Sonic resonance is based on creating shapes within our bodies to hold specific tones or notes. It can be used as a powerful tool to determine and alleviate any misalignments or blockages in our bodies.

We can set ourselves up for success by keeping our bodies tuned overall through Asana, bodywork, diet, and nutrition. Therefore a combination of general body maintenance and resonance work is a healthy way to maintain this aspect of our vibrational energy.

Breath - air is our life force. How we breathe affects how well our prānic energy can flow to power vibration.

This determines how well our life force can power us. When we breathe fully, oxygen flows into every cell in our bodies powering us with prāna.

When we breathe sub-optimally, perhaps in a shallow way, or through our mouth rather than our noses such as when we are experiencing a common cold, this affects how prāna is distributed through the body.

We can observe this by seeing how we power sounds to reach desired resonant spaces and create specific tones.

Specific kinds of breathwork or pranayama practices can help maintain and strengthen this aspect of our vibration.

Mind - thoughts and emotions generate energy currents. These affect our resting vibration, and clarity of expression.

Perhaps one of the biggest things that most subconsciously affects us is our thoughts and feelings. What we think can affect how we breathe and hold ourselves, affecting our nāda and prāna flow.

Examples include when we experience thoughts of stress, anger, fear, or sadness, our bodies tense, and our breathing changes. When we experience thoughts that feel calm, relaxed, happy, or grateful, our bodies feel at ease and breath flows more smoothly.

When we are unaware of our subconscious thought patterns, we boot up resting energy states that feel familiar or homely to us, which may not always serve our best interest. Any yoga breaks patterns of the mind to promote fluid adaptability. It helps us be in the driver’s seat of our energy.

Specific meditations, personal development, and spiritual guides can help augment mental fitness. All Naad Yoga, especially Mantra and Raaga practices, have a built-in intensity of technical mental challenges to sharpen the mind, and engaging it such that it stays focused on desired things to promote desired energy patterns.

Spirit - internal spiritual orientation of our truth or dharma give us our “why,” determining our harmonic alignment with the universe. It determines the impact of expression.

Our spiritual orientation affects our resting energy. Observing this gives us insight into our intent and motivations.

When we are clear on our “why”, and clarify our purpose, truth, dharma, life desires, and spiritual intensity, we are in harmonic alignment with the universe and are tuned in to peace. Our resting state, our decisions, and actions reflect this inner peace. On the other hand, when we are disharmonious within ourselves, we feel energies of distress and emit this vibration into the world around us in every interaction.

When we know what we want, we can orient ourselves to our svadharma, or personal truth or purpose, and boost our spirit with practices that invoke energies we want to vibrate in.

For instance, if we want more courage in our vibration, we can chant specific mantras, do tailored meditations, practice suitable raagas, or do daily rituals that cultivate the energy of courage. This is the purpose of spiritual practice.
