  • Hanuman Hymn:

Having polished the mirror of my heart with the dust of my Guru’s lotus feet
I sing the pure fame of the best of Raghus, which bestows the four fruits of life.
I know that this body of mine has no intelligence, so I recall you, Son of the Wind
Grant me strength, wit and wisdom and remove my sorrows and shortcomings.

    1. Hail to Hanuman, the ocean of wisdom and virtue,
Hail Monkey Lord, illuminater of the three worlds.

    2. You are Ram’s emissary, and the abode of matchless power
Anjani’s son, named the “Son of the Wind.”

    3. Great hero, you are as mighty as a thunderbolt,
You remove evil thoughts and are the companion of the good.

    4. Golden hued and splendidly adorned
With heavy earrings and curly locks.

    5. In your hands shine mace and a banner
And a sacred thread adorns your shoulder.

    6. You are Shiva’s son and Kesari’s joy
And your glory is revered throughout the world.

    7. You are the wisest of the wise, virtuous and clever
And ever intent on doing Ram’s work.

    8. You delight in hearing of the Lord’s deeds,
Ram, Sita and Lakshman dwell in your heart.

    9. Assuming a tiny form you appeared to Sita
And in an awesome form you burned Lanka.

    10. Taking a dreadful form you slaughtered the demons
      And completed Lord Ram’s mission.

    11. Bringing the magic herb you revived Lakshman
And Ram embraced you with delight.

    12. The Lord of the Raghus praised you greatly:
“Brother, you are dear to me as Bharat!”

    13. “May the thousand-mouthed serpent sing your fame!”
So saying, Lakshmi’s Lord drew you to Himself.

    14. Sanak and the sages, Brahma, gods and the great saints,
Narada, Saraswati and the King of serpents,

    15. Yama, Kubera and the guardians of the four quarters,
poets and scholars – none can express your glory.

    16. You did great service for Sugriva,
Presenting him to Ram, you gave him the kingship.

    17. Vibhishana heeded your counsel
And became the Lord of Lanka, as the whole world knows.

    18. Though the sun is thousands of miles away,
You swallowed it, thinking it to be a sweet fruit.

    19. Holding the Lord’s ring in your mouth
It’s no surprise that you leapt over the ocean.

    20. Every difficult task in this world
      Becomes easy by your grace.

    21. You are the guardian at Ram’s door,
No one enters without your leave.

    22. Those who take refuge in you find all happiness
and those who you protect know no fear.

    23. You alone can withstand your own splendor,
The three worlds tremble at your roar.

    24. Ghosts and goblins cannot come near,
Great Hero, when your name is uttered.

    25. All disease and pain is eradicated,
Brave Hanuman, by constant repetition of your name.

    26. Hanuman releases from affliction
those who remember him in thought word and deed.

    27. Ram, the ascetic, reigns over all,
but you carry out all his work.

    28. One who comes to you with any yearning
obtains the abundance of the Four Fruits of Life.

    29. Your splendor fills the four ages
your glory is renowned throughout the world.

    30. You are the guardian of saints and sages,
the destroyer of demons and the darling of Ram.

    31. You grant the eight powers and the nine treasures
by the boon you received from Mother Janaki.

    32. You hold the elixir of Ram’s name
      and remain eternally his servant.

    33. Singing your praise, one finds Ram
and escapes the sorrows of countless lives.

    34. At death one goes to Ram’s own city
or is born on the earth as God’s devotee.

    35. Give no thought to any other deity,
worshipping Hanuman, one gains all delight.

    36. All affliction ceases and all pain is removed
by remembering the mighty hero, Hanuman.

    37. Victory, Victory, Victory to Lord Hanuman!
Bestow your grace on me, as my Guru!

    38. Whoever recites this a hundred times
is released from bondage and gains bliss.

    39. One who reads this Hanuman Chaleesa (hymn)
gains success, as Gauri’s Lord (Shiva) is witness.

    40. Says Tulsidas, who always remains Hari’s servant:
“Lord, make your home in my heart.”

Son of the Wind, destroyer of sorrow, embodiment of blessing,
Live in my heart, King of Gods, together with Ram, Lakshman and Sita.

  • By: Saint Goswami Tulsidas

From Ramcharitmanas, Section Sundarakanda, Verse 134

O Lord, the son of Pavana (the wind) - Hanuman - has done such deeds that even with a thousand mouths, they cannot be fully described.

  • O my mind, why are you so restless?

Chant the name of Lord Rama, O my mind

When you steady yourself in this, all actions you do will be divinely blessed and guided

For the one upon whose crown sits Lord Raghunaatha,

For them shall all actions be divined.

Tulsidas asks for his Lord Rama’s kindness and piety

that all obstacles shall be removed from his path.

  • Sri Ramachandra Krupalu

    By: Saint Goswami Tulsidas

O Mind (mana)! Pray (bhaja) to compassionate (kripAlu) Ramachandra who destroys (haraNa) the great (dAruNa) fears of life (bhava-bhaya). With eyes (lOchana) like a new (nava) lotus (kanja), with a face (mukha) like a lotus (kanja), and feet (pada) like a crimson (aruNa=dawn) lotus (kanja).

With boundless (amita) splendour (chavi) like innumerable (agaNita) cupids (kandarpa), he is as beautiful (sundaram) as a new (nava) blue (implies rain?) (nIla) cloud (nIrada). I bow (noumi) to that groom (varam) of Janaka’s daughter (sutA), who is like  (mAnahu) a lustrous (ruchi) white (shuchi) lightning (taDita) in his yellow (pIta) garments (paTa).

I bow (bhaja) to the Sun-like (diNesha) friend (bandhu) of the wretched (dIna),  destroyer (nikandanam) of the demons (dAnava & daityA) dynasties (vansha). Son (nanda) of the Raghu dynasty, root (kanda) of joy (Ananda), gladdens (chanda) the Kosalas (his mother’s dynasty),  son of Dasharatha.

Beautiful (chAru) with a crown (mukuTa) on his head (shira), earrings (kunDala), and mark on his forehead (tilaka) and limbs (anga) generously (udAra) decorated (vibhUshaNam). With long hands to his knees (AjAnu-bhuja), holding (dhara) a bow (chApa) and arrow (shara) , winner (jIta) of the battle (sangrAma) with khara and dhUshaNa.

Thus (iti) says (vadati) tulasIdAsa. He who pleases (ranjana) the minds (mana) of Shankara and Adisesha (sEsha muni), who has contempt (ganjanam) for the wicked things (khala-dala) like (Adi) desire (kAma), please dwell (nivAsa kuru) in the lotus (kanja) of my heart (hridaya).

  • Manojavam Couplet

(I take Refuge in Sri Hanuman)
1: Who is Swift as the Mind and Fast as the Wind,
2: Who is the Master of the Senses, and Honoured for His Excellent Intelligence, Learning and Wisdom,
3: Who is Son of the Wind God and Chief among the Vanaras (Who were part of the Devas incarnated in the species of the monkeys to serve Sri Rama during His Incarnation),
4: To that Messenger of Sri Rama, I take Refuge (by prostrating before him).

    Sankatamochan 8-verse poem

when you were a child You attempted to engulf Sun considering it to be a fruit, and the three worlds were plunged into darkness. Then all the gods pleaded with you to bring back the light, you finally opened your mouth and let out the sun to light up the world once again. Who does not know in this world that your name is Sankat Mochan, Hanuman, the liberator of troubles!

When Bali's terror forced the King of the forest dwelling monkey men (Sugriva) to live in the mountains, and Bali could not enter his mountain cave due to the curse of the great sage Chaunk Muni, he feared Bali’s spies were near to capture him when two men came to the mountain. Then you disguised yourself as a priest, and went to find out who it was, and after meeting them, brought Rama and Lakshmana to the cave, and Rama killed Bali. You liberated Sugriva from his troubles. Who does not know in this world that your name is Sankat Mochan, Hanuman, the liberator of troubles!

Along with Angad, you went to fetch information on Sita’s whereabouts. “Find her”, the ape king did declare “None of you I’ll spare, if without her trace you set foot back here!” At the sea coast, when all lost hope, and resolved to die rather than to go back without completing their mission, you found Sita and saved the life of the entire army. Who does not know in this world that your name is Sankat Mochan, Hanuman, the liberator of troubles!

When Ravan's demoness maids were tormenting and troubling Sita on his instruction in the Ashoka Garden, she was ready to give up her life out of despair thinking she would never be found and was losing hope. Then you gave Shri Ram’s ring to Sita as his messenger delivering the message of Shri Ram which gave new life to Sita. Who does not know in this world that your name is Sankat Mochan, Hanuman, the liberator of troubles!

When the deathly arrow struck Lakshman’s chest, the deathly one that Ravan’s son did shoot, you brought with his whole house healer Sushen who asked you to bring the Sanjeevani herb from the Himalayas. Then you flew overnight to bring the Drona mountain which carries the herb, and helped save Lakshman’s life. Who does not know in this world that your name is Sankat Mochan, Hanuman, the liberator of troubles!

In war when Ravan attacked Shri Ram army with venomous snakes sending everyone into a poisoned swoon, the whole army including Shri Ram was in trouble. Then you brought Garuda (the big eagle) to scare away the snakes. You saved the entire army including the life of Shri Ram. Who does not know in this world that your name is Sankat Mochan, Hanuman, the liberator of troubles!

When Ahiravan abducted Raghunath, along with his younger brother Lakshman to the underworld, and they were being prepared to be ritually sacrificed, you appeared before them and killed Ahiravan and again saved the lives of Shri Ram and Lakshman. Who does not know in this world that your name is Sankat Mochan, Hanuman, the liberator of troubles!

Great feats for the gods you carried out, O Great Warrior, whatever crisis or troubles one finds themselves in if they just think of you they gain strength. O Lord Hanuman, please take away any dangers that may befall us, O Great Monkey Lord! Who does not know in this world that your name is Sankat Mochan, Hanuman, the liberator of troubles!

  • Worship the feet of Lord Sri Rama, Lord (husband) of Vaidehi (Sita), whose heavenly abode is Vaikunta. Like the Choodamani, crown jewel, which is the best among the jewels worn on the head, Sri Rama is the Crown Jewel of the Earth (rare most brilliantly shining gem of the world). He is the Atma (Higher self or Higher conscience) Rama, hailing from the land of Ayodhya.

  • Santakaaram Bhujagasayanam Couplet

1: (I Meditate on Lord Vishnu) Who has a Serene Appearance (which fills our inner being with Peace); Who is Lying on (the Bed of) Serpent (Ananta or Adisesha, representing the eternal Primal Energy or Mula Prakriti); From Whose Navel is springing up a Lotus (which is the source of all Creations through Brahmadeva); and Who is (presiding over the various elements of those Creations as) the Lord of the Devas,
    2: Who is the Substratum of the whole Universe (as Consciousness); and (Boundless and Infinite) like the Sky (Chidakasha); with a Form Bluish in Colour like the Cloud, (The Form) which is radiating Auspiciousness (which fills our inner being with Bliss);
3: Who is the Beloved of Devi Lakshmi with Eyes Beautiful like Lotus petals; Who is Attainable by the Yogis only through (Devotional) Meditation,
4: I Worship that All-Pervading Vishnu Who Removes the Fear of Worldly Existence (by making us realize that we are not isolated beings internally but are eternally connected to Him); I Worship that Vishnu Who is the One Lord of All the Lokas (Worlds).

    Srimad Bhagvatam Verse 12.13.1

Unto that personality whom Brahmā, Varuṇa, Indra, Rudra and the Maruts praise by chanting transcendental hymns and reciting the Vedas with all their corollaries, pada-kramas and Upaniṣads, to whom the chanters of the Sāma Veda always sing, whom the perfected yogīs see within their minds after fixing themselves in trance and absorbing themselves within Him, and whose limit can never be found by any demigod or demon — unto that Supreme Personality of Godhead I offer my humble obeisances.
